Day 2 in Costa Rica

Today, we woke up bright and early around 6 (8 in America) to get ready to help out at the school. We loaded up on the buses and drove to the school which is about 5-10 minutes away. All of us arrived and we went straight to breakfast. The menu for breakfast was assorted fruits, starfruit juice, and a delicious dish called pinto, a bean and rice mixture. It was beyond amazing and we all had seconds. After that, we joined the kids in their recess. The kids were soo good at soccer that they beat us 10 to zero! We had a great time with the kids and getting to talk to them in Spanish and English. We can't wait to go back and help with the school even more.
After we hung out with the kids we begn digging holes for our project, to put fences around the schoolyard. After that we went back to the cafeteria and bought homemade ice cream.  Later we went to the reserve and planted trees. We planted several species of trees that were bought specifically for the food soures they serve as to birds. Rafa led us down a steep mountain path, through coffee trees which the village harvests every year, to his house for lunch. There we learned to make empanadas with cheese and beans, which were very delicious. We walked back to Cabinas Cecilia and played games like president and mafia. Javier told us about challenge by choice, an idea that involves pushing your comfort zone to improve your learning experience. We ate a delicious dinner of pasta, salad, garlic cheese bread, and chocolate cake. We look forward to tomorrow's full day of work and adventure!
